Radiant Orchid. “It’s a wonderful name”, says Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone Color Institute, Exec. Director. “It immediately conjures up a picture… The radiance is obvious because it has a wonderful sheen to it. And orchid makes it rather exotic.”
Every year the Pantone color institute designates a ‘Color of the Year’ to concisely yet effectively express what is happening globally in one color. 2013 saw the enigmatic emerald, 2012 favored bright Tangerine and so on. And the trending color usually sees itself interspersed itself in fashion, communication, design etc. Each color of the year arguably expresses the global consciousness of its respective year.
The exotic shade of orchid, with undertones of pink and fuchsia, is 2014’s favorite. “A color that really has that beguiling charm”, as Leatrice puts it, the Radiant Orchid is a symbolic color. Belonging to the Purple family, it is know for its magical quality. It’s a color that speaks to creativity. Wearing it enhances that feeling of being creative and being innovative, “…which is so important in today’s life. We are all looking for that touch of uniqueness”.
