No doubt about it: everybody adores Festival de Cannes 2014! The modern starlets flocked to put themselves in the hands of the maestros. And why not? There is nothing more tempting than the timeless femininity of participating designers and labels that include Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Christian Dior and many more. This year, our very own Gaurav Gupta, known for his gorgeous gold sari gown, dressed Hofit Golan in a splendid custom floor length lace gown. One of the major highlights of the Cannes is the American Foundation for AIDS Research benefit that is arguably the most prestigious event at Cannes. It’s Hollywood’s fight against AIDS as described by Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, Carine Roitfeld. The red-hot color is the theme and a tribute to the tragically beautiful “fashion Icon” Marilyn Monroe is the agenda. The Color red has a very special place in Indian couture. Renowned designers like Tarun Tahiliani and Anita Dongre have various intricate designs in red.
The appearances at Cannes emerged with many of the strongest trends of the moment for women. Celebrities arrived in limos bringing surefire glamour to The 2014 Cannes Film Festival. And that’s just for starters! Heavy doses of femininity are yet to come! Freida Pinto and Sonam Kapoor seem to be hitting it off pretty well together at the French Riviera from what we can make out in the photograph posted on Instagram by Sonam. We saw some stunning glimpses of Sonam Kapoor’s attire for L’Oreal as well. Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was not able to walk the red carpet at the Festival de Cannes on Friday (May 16), due to the air traffic control strike in France. She has been attending the ceremony on behalf of L’Oreal for 13 years now. Unlike her previous appearances at Cannes, Mallika Sherawat took it easy this time with an Emilio Pucci lacey gown in a subtle blue color.
With the Indian designers making it big at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, come the next round of red-carpet events, we expect to see more celebrities competing for first dibs on Indian couture!
