The Empress Story by Manish Malhotra

Our friend and leading designer, Manish Malhotra closed the India Couture Week 2015 with a beautiful collection titled ’The Empress Story’. This year, Manish Malhotra completes 25 years in the industry and 10 years since his label launch, an anniversary that is truly remarkable.

The show was held at an offsite location: The Leela Palace and the venue was decorated with roses and chandeliers hung from the ceiling with custom curated modern jazz music playing in the background, adding to the grandeur of the collection.

The Empress Story is influenced by old Indian craftsmanship; The western silhouettes in the collection featured intricate detailing and embroidery.

The ensembles included voluminous gowns and lehengas in dark hues like rose pink, greys, browns, red with hints of silver and gold. Menswear included structured jackets, coats and waistcoats in shades of blue and black. Both men’s and women’s wear featured Manish’s signature elaborate embroidery and motifs. Hand crafted shoes and masquerade masks and belts by Nitya Arora of Valliyan also added to the splendour of the collection.

The stunning Aishwarya Rai Bachchan gracing the ramp after five years playing showstopper for you! Kudos to Manish Malhotra for having the superstar don an embroidered skirt, an elegant top and a beautiful jacket in a refreshing non-stereotypical color palette.

A great finale to a week long celebration of the best that couture has to offer in India. We look forward to BMW Bridal Week up next!
