The Off Beat And Mainstream Of Red Carpet Fashion
While off late we have been talking about the innovative front row fashion and the avant garde street style at the on-going fashion weeks, Saturday night (or morning here) had us harkening back to the ever so glamorous side of fashion – the Hollywood red carpet style at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
The temperatures were high, quite literally, what with the sweltering sun and sticky Californian heat which could have played spoil sport with the immaculately put together looks of our favorite celebrities. But then they are our favorite sartorial icons for a reason. While there was no one trend or theme we could observe from the red carpet, the mood definitely was for cool, breezy looks while maintaining the glamour quotient (take cue all you style enthusiasts out there). And while there was no direct relation with the ongoing fashion weeks, one tend that got manifested de facto (probably owning the heat?) was the off-shoulder, with actor-comedian Amy Schumer and Elisabeth Moss baring them perfectly tanned shoulders in a teal Zac Posen and a custom Oscar de la Renta respectively.
Talking about the sweeping gowns, Mindy Kaling looked a veritable ray of sunshine in her Salvador Perez, Amanda Peet channeled goth chic vibe in her Michael Kors cutout affair, Lady Gaga opted for a surprisingly demure Brandon Maxwell and Heidi Klum brought buttercup style back in vogue in her Atelier Versace number. What was of special note was the mighty return of the pantsuits and edgy silhouettes – we cannot get over how marvelously fierce Kerry Washington looked in that beaded Marc Jacobs, that dress just made to top on our lust list! And of course we loved the effortless business chic look of Carrie Brownstein in that Stella McCartney pant suit, something we are itching to replicate at work. Talking about suits, the men looked quite dapper in their due, and while we were more focused on the ladies’ style, we cannot get stress enough on how endearingly suave Pablo Schreiber looked in Brooks Brothers (special props to him for choosing the heritage brand which made a recent comeback with a show at New York Fashion Week SS16).
Well, enough of us talking, in case you missed out on seeing the awards show on the telly, we round up 16 of our favorite celebrity styles from the Emmys red carpet below, happy style browsing!
