1. 67th Primetime Emmy Awards | Red Carpet Meets Daring
It was back to the good old Hollywood glamour at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles last Saturday. While there was no one trend or theme we could observe from the red carpet, the mood definitely was for cool, breezy looks with the hot trend of the season, the off shoulder silhouettes making a strong appearance. Our favorites? Padma Lakshmi in sensuous Romona Kevez, Lady Gaga opted in a surprisingly demure Brandon Maxwell, Taraji P. Henson in edgy Alexander Wang, Kerry Washington in a fierce Marc Jacobs, Mindy Kaling in sunshine yellow Salvador Perez and Carrie Brownstein going the power packed glamour way in a Stella McCartney pant suit. 2. Milan Fashion Week SS16 | Playing Ground of The Design Bigwigs
While New York and London Fashion weeks are known for experimental fashion and disruptive collaborations, at Milan Fashion Week, the focus remains on the design ethos of the couture houses – albeit what’s worth watching is how the young creative directors steer the established labels into the new fashion millennial. The ongoing Milan Fashion Week SS16 is a case in point – with all eyes on Alessandro Michele for Gucci (after long time creative director Frida Giannini’s departure last year) and Jeremy Scott for Moschino. And might we say, they delivered quite a punch – with Michele steering the Gucci design aesthetic with a sharp minimalism while retaining the understated glamour that is bound to be a hit with the Gucci enthusiasts and Scott continuing on his quirky, structured couture route for Moschino. The Powerpuff girl bags seem to have become a hit already, flooding instagram feeds even as we speak. And then there was the space age construction that shone through at the Prada runway, the playful dreaminess at Emporio Armani and the rock and roll tomboy style at Tod’s. For a detailed synopsis on Milan Fashion Week highlights, stay tuned!
3. #BOF500 | Sartorial Indians Making A Mark Globally
If there is one list that all of fashion industry waits for bated breath, it is the #BOF500 list released every year by Business of Fashion – a professional index of the people shaping the global fashion industry, based on hundreds of nominations received from current members of the BoF 500, data analysis and months of research to unearth names from all corners of the globe. And while we are saving a detailed perusal of the fashion power makers as a Sunday inspiration read, what had us quite excited was the inclusion of new Indian names along side the regulars – Kalyani Saha of Dior, Bandana Tewari & Anaita Shroff Adajania of Vogue India, designers Anamika Khanna, Manish Arora, Manish Malhotra, Rahul Misra & Rohit Bal. Who are these names? First is India’s answer to Cara Delevingne, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner – Bhumika Grover, an Indian model making it big on the international fashion modeling circuit. Second is the dynamic editor of Elle India, Aishwarya Subramanyam, a woman who combines a sharp intellect with a deep know how of the industry that has helped steer the magazine’s recent revival in India. You can peruse the entire #BOF500 list here.
4. Forest Essentials Store Launch | Organic Beauty Has A New Address
If there is one organic beauty brand that is truly working towards a natural way of skincare, it has to be Forest Essentials, with it’s extensive range of Ayruveda inspired skin care, hair care, bath and body and cosmetic preparations. What has us thinking of them at this moment is their newly launched store in Bandra, Mumbai. Designed to be a relaxing oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, the 1300 sq.ft. store beckons with its fragrant atmosphere, ambient prints of Raja Ravi Verma paintings and an embalming sense of being looked after with cups of organic ginger and jaggery tea, while browsing through the daycare, bodycare, haircare, mother-and-child care sections. With a specially trained sales staff to guide and provide help in choosing the right products based on one on one consultations, this is beauty shopping at it’s therapeutic best. The Forest Essentials new store address is: Shop No. 1,2,3 Ground Floor, Comfort House, Plot no. 267, ahead of Shopper’s Stop, Linking Road, Bandra (West).
Oh and if you are not in Delhi or Mumbai (where the Forest Essentials stores are currently located) but wishing to buy from their extensive organic beauty ranges, you can do so from the comfort of you home here.
5. Hello Bash & Chivas Gentleman Soiree | Events Worth Their RSVPs in Gold
Talking about high profile events closer home, this week witnessed two star studded affairs, first was a celebratory event held by Hello! India magazine for their 100th issue launch at DLF Emporio in New Delhi and the second was a Gentleman’s soiree held by Chivas Regal in association with noted menswear designer Ashish N. Soni and renowned photographer Atul Kasbekar at the newly rechristened St. Regis hotel (formerly Palladium Hotel) in Mumbai. The former had the who’s who of the city’s fashion crowds in attendance with curated exhibits for the guests by Jade, the bridal couture label showcasing a limited edition of contemporary cocktail gowns and Dia, the precious jewelry label presenting their newly launched contemporary bridal jewels collection. The Chivas Regal event in turn was graced by the attendance of Mumbai’s most dapper gentlemen and their better halves as the evening brought forth the art of tailoring and a shared passion for power dressing by Indian labels with Ashish Soni’s Tailoring Studio exhibit being the talk of the evening.
