The India Fashion Week SS’16 kicked off today with an all new venue and with the regulars from the fashion world as well some new faces in attendance. The new venue – the NSIC Grounds in Delhi – served as the perfect backdrop to this much awaited sartorial spectacle.
Day 1 kicked off with the opening show by none other than Sanjay Garg of Raw Mango fame. True to form, the runway was rampant with resplendent silk focused on the revival of Mashru textile – the perfect summer wedding trousseau. Featuring what appeared to be 50 shades of pink, this collection with it vibrant assortment of pinks, maroons, reds and gold, lived upto everything we expected and more!Vaishali S. showcased drama and flair through and through. Fluid silhouttes in a monochrome and beige palette made for some head-turning fashion statements and we absolutely loved what we saw! Sticking with this season’s hottest trend, Anavila’s collection featured exquisite handwoven linens in a contemporary monochromatic palette. Rabani & Rakha’s show featured an impressive balance of intricate jewelled detailing with light sheer drapes of tuille and chiffon. From embroidered bustiers and tops to embellished waist coats and evening gowns, the collection was reminiscent of the opulent orient.
Vineet Bahl’s collection ‘Through The Looking Glass’ brought alive surreal realism with its reinterpretation of the cultural leitmotifs of China. Inspired by an exhibition of the same name at the Met Museum, NY, the collection featured crop trousers, wide-leg trousers, tunics and jackets in candy colours and jewel tones. Add in the bead and bugle glass detailing and feminine drapes, you have the perfect summer wardrobe!
Kavita Bhartia’s collection quite aptly called ‘Quite Chaos’ was a completely new take on Ikat. Interpreting age-old tradition in a modern aesthetic, the collection featured geometric and architectural inspirations with feminine yet contemporary silhouettes and prints. Voluminous skirts, dresses, crop tops, pleated pants, dresses and jackets in shades of beige, tiffany blues, minty greens and oodles of sparkle were all a part of this romantic collection. The closing show for Day 1 featured renowned duo Shivan and Narresh but the twist was that the show was held off-site. The collection featured strong, clean lines, fun summery colours and the classic silhouettes we have come to expect from the swim wear designers in the form of summer dresses, bikinis, monokinis, kaftans and cover-ups and the surprise element – this season’s must-have boys. If this is what they have in store for us, the summer of ’16 sure looks promising!
