5 Gorgeous & Timeless Do It Yourself Updo’s For Any Wedding Function
November marks the start of two things in India – winter and wedding season! Most of us have a ton of weddings to attend this season. While there’s only so many different ways you can wear the few wedding ensembles you have, the options on how you can wear your hair to these weddings are endless. But between the madness and frenzy, you may not always have time to go to a salon before dashing off to the next function. Here, we break down five timeless but oh so simple wedding updo’s that you can quickly do yourself and still pull off a chic hairstyle.
#1 The Sleeked Back Tuck
If you’re going for a minimal, no fuss look, this easy-to-do hairstyle is just for you.
Step 1: Straighten your hair with a flat iron and apply some smoothening serum to keep the fly-away strands in check. Mark out a deep side part.
Step 2: Start to pull your hair into a low ponytail but instead of pulling it all the way through the band, only pull through, leaving half the ponytail outside the band like below.
Step 3: Wrap the loose hair tightly around the band and secure it underneath with bobby pins. Tuck in all the strays with a tail comb and spritz on enough hairspray to keep the whole look together.
#2 The Top Knot
If timeless is your thing, then it doesn’t get more timeless than an uber chic top knot!
Step 1: Straighten your hair either with a flat iron or a blow dryer and a paddle brush
Step 2: Draw out a side parting and gather your hair into a high ponytail. Pull out a section in the front that is swept towards the side of your parting.
Step 3: Take the front section and pulling it back along your ear, tie it around the ponytail, fastening it with bobby pins.
Step 4:Divide the ponytail into 4 sections. Twist a section and wrap it around the base of the ponytail and fasten with pins. Repeat with all 3 other sections and voila!
#3 The Tie-Some, Leave-Some
This is one up-do that is not just super easy to get, but also looks great with just about any Indian ensemble.
Step 1: Use a curling iron to curl your entire hair into large loose curls. Run your fingers through the curls to open them out and loosen them.
Step 2: Draw a middle parting and using your fingers, tease your roots and spritz with hairspray
Step 3: Tease your hair and then gently gather the hair from both sides upwards into a half ponytail.
Step 4: Secure with bobby pins at the back of your head and use your fingers and a curling iron to set the curls in place.
#4 The Boho Twist
If you’re looking for something different and want to go the easy breezy boho way, this simple but super chic updo is the way to go
Step 1: In small sections (1-2 inches) curl your entire hair and part it in the middle.
Step 2: Dive each side into 3 sections. Lift the top layer of hair so that it rests right above your ear and start to tease and twist the hair along the back of your head securing with pins. Repeat for all 6 sections.
Step 3: Tuck in stray fly-aways with a tail comb and use the tail comb to pull out the hair a little so that it isn’t too tight against your scalp. Spritz with hairspray to keep it all in place and you’re good to go!
#5 The Waterfall Braid
If you’re a fan of braids but want a twist (pardon the pun) this is the look for you!
Step 1: Begin with a French braid over your right ear.
Step 2: Start the waterfall portion by pulling the left strand into the middle.
Step 3: Then, take hair from the top and pull it into the middle as well.
Step 4: Next, take the strand on the right and drop it down.
Step 5: Pick up a section of hair that is directly behind the strand you dropped.
Step 6: Place this section into the middle part of the braid and continuing this method, work towards the left side of the head.
Step 7: Once you reach the left side, drop the strand of hair on the right as usual.
Step 8: Then, wrap the left strand over the middle piece.
Step 9: Place a bobby pin over the strand and secure it in place.
Step 10: Use the other hair to hide the bobby pin.
