1. The 2015 British Fashion Awards
It was a fashionable Sunday in London at the eve of 2015 British Awards, industry’s most anticipated award presentation. Set against the majestic backdrop of the London Coliseum, venue for the event, it was a night of fashion at its fashionable best with a star studded red carpet boasting the likes of Rihanna, Liv Tyler, Emma Watson, David and Victoria Beckham, Cara Delvingne, Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld alongside the who’s who of the global fashion industry.
JW Anderson, a designer known for his distinctive unisex take on fashion design, was named both the menswear and womenswear designer of 2015. This is the first time any designer has won both categories in the same year. With the likes of Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham & Christopher Kane in the running for the two categories, the 31 year old attaining the distinct honor was a commemoration of the new wave of experimental fashion.
Stella McCartney won brand of the year and Tom Ford took home the red carpet designer of the year award (though the designer, true to his recent public anonymity was absent and the award was collected by Lady Gaga). Model of the year went to the ever so sensuous Jordan Dunn who accepted her award from Olivier Rousteing of Balmain. London fashion week favourites Erdem and Mary Katrantzou won establishment designer and new establishment designer respectively.
With all the red carpet sightings, the pun’ful compering and candid stage moments from the sartorial stalwarts, we kind of wish we could go time travel back to last Sunday to take in our favorite kind of fashion revelry!
2. Fourth Vogue Indian Fashion Fund Awards
Along the lines of the international Vogue Fashion Fund initiative, The Vogue India Fashion Fund is an attempt at promoting young Indian fashion talent by giving them a platform to showcase their collections alongside mentorship, financial aid and commercial opportunity to kickstart their careers.
After three immensely well received editions, with the likes of Aneeth Arora of Pero and Ruchika Sachdeva of Bodice being the past winners, the fourth Vogue India Fashion Fund Awards were held at Q’la in Delhi this week .
It was an evening with a celebratory and slightly chilly air as avant garde young designer Dhruv Kapoor was announced the winner who received a cash prize of Rs. 25 Lakhs and an opportunity to create a diffusion line with Van Huesen. The modern boheme aesthetic of Payal Khandwala won her the first runner up position alongside a special Peroni Prize while the minimalist style of Nimish Shah of Shift earned him second runner up award. Sisters and designer duo Sasha and Kaabia Grewal won in the Accessories category with a cash prize of Rs 7 lakhs. What was new this time around was the Sari Design category, for which Anavila Misra of Anavila emerged as the winner with aprize money of Rs. 7.5 lakhs contributed by FDCI chairman Sunil Sethi and designers Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Anita Dongre.
And that was not all, the evening saw the likes of Anita Dongre, Gaurav Gupta, JJ Valaya, Amit Aggarwal, Arjun Saluja and Pernia Qureshi hob nobbing alongside the Conde Nast team and the regular Delhi socialites.
We sure can’t wait to see the winners come up with next after this immense acknowledgment of their talent.
