Sartorial Headlines Worth Knowing From India And Around The World
1. Leonardo DiCaprio Wins Oscars For ‘The Revenant’ :
Leonardo DiCaprio has won the Academy Award for best actor for his work in The Revenant. Presenter Julianne Moore, who won best actress at last year’s awards, waited a respectable amount of time before announcing DiCaprio’s name, as if to see if she could make time itself pause briefly in anticipation. Born in 1974 without a statuette, Leonardo Willhelm DiCaprio has starred in over two dozen films, including Gangs of New York and The Basketball Diaries. He once had an uncredited role as Darlene’s classmate in a 1991 episode of Roseanne. To date, DiCaprio has won over 40 awards and has been nominated six times for an Oscar. This is his first win after 12 years. DiCaprio thanked fellow nominees, the cast and crew of The Revenant and even past collaborators like Martin Scorsese. DiCaprio ended with a big note on the environment:
“Climate change is real, it is happening right now, it is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world … who speak for all of humanity.” “Let’s not take this planet for granted, I am not taking tonight for granted.”
2. All Eyes Will Be on Hedi Slimane at Paris Fashion Week :
Hedi Slimane’s debut on Oct. 1, 2012, as the new creative and image director of Yves Saint Laurent, with a ready-to-wear collection he’d rebranded months before as, simply, Saint Laurent, was the news event of that Paris season. All were curious to see what would come next for the man who in 2007 abruptly halted his career as the groundbreaking men’s wear designer for Dior Homme, where his pin-thin tailoring was coveted by everyone from Karl Lagerfeld to Madonna and spent the intervening years as a photographer, mostly in Los Angeles.
Mr. Slimane’s latest show, to be held on Monday, is inspiring nearly equal interest. If months of speculation are to be believed, it may well be his last for the house of Saint Laurent. Mr. Slimane and Kering, which owns Saint Laurent, are in protracted contract negotiations, and rumors persist that the designer and the company have been unable to agree on terms.
3. Priyanka Chopra Presents an Award At Oscars 2016 :
Priyanka Chopra, who chose a Lebanese designer’s pristine white ensemble for her Academy Awards appearance, says she wanted to turn up at the gala in a pretty, feminine and a ‘very classic’ gown. The ‘Quantico’ star was one of the presenters at the 88th Academy Awards which took place here on Sunday where she looked stunning in a structured cage bustier mermaid dress in white silk tulle adorned with 3D shimmering climbing flowers. The dress was a creation by Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad. Priyanka Chopra’s every move was noticed at the Oscars this year. But the Indian beauty didn’t disappoint anyone, be it the global media or fans back home. Her walk down the red carpet looked like a scene straight out of a fairy tale. Dressed in white with diamond jewelry, her princess look became the topic of discussion. So much so, that she dominated all internet records the entire day.
